The idea of UKGOTO originated from a website we created in the year 2000 called Norwich Norfolk, which displayed business listings and local information about the city of Norwich and its surrounding areas. Sadly, this didn't take off, as it should due to staff losses, which naturally kept it up-to-date. Some seven years on and new ideas began to emerge. A sister-site was planned called Ipswich Suffolk, however, the idea of running both websites and updating regularly was deemed too much work and plans were scrapped.
The next step was the beginning of UKGOTO, with the domain www.ukgo.to being purchased on the 01/02/2004. This fueled the idea that we should host each county within the UK. Each county would have a link to websites like Norwich Norfolk. We would sell each county to someone who would like to display an option like Norwich Norfolk. However, this was still thought as being too much work for the company so plans were yet again scrapped.
The registration of the company came in March 2007, to make us "UKGOTO Ltd". New plans were now a certainty, therefore, ideas had to be spot on this time around. In May 2007 sub-domains were set-up for http://www.ukgo.to. Each county in the UK has its very own sub-domain through UKGOTO, for example Norfolk would be http://norfolk.ukgo.to and the Isle of Wight would be http://isle-of-wight.ukgo.to.
The beginning of June 2007 witnessed the uploading of the UKGOTO Website, with each County displayed in their very own sub-domains. The content of each sub-domain includes the UKGOTO Toolbar and the County Council Website that relates to each County.
The future of each county has already been decided, so come back and visit us and notice any changes we have made.
March 2007: The Registration of UKGOTO Ltd.
May 2007: The Registered Trademark of UKGOTO Ltd is unveiled and Sub-domains are created for each county.
June 2007: The UKGOTO Website is launched and further work on Norfolk begins.
